Here are a few frequently asked questions about the Peugeot 206 Super 1600 rally car
Q: What's the top speed of the Peugeot 206 XS
A: In rallying, a very high top speed is not necessary as the stages are generally quite tight and twisty - the average speed over a complete stage is usually 60 - 70 MPH. Acceleration is much more important, so the we use a close ratio 6-speed sequential gearbox. Typically maximum revs. in 6th gear is about 110-115 MPH, although we sometimes use other gear ratios which give a lower top speed, but better accelaration.
Q: What's the difference between the Peugeot 206 XS and a normal, road going 206.
A: The 206 XS is build to the FIA's "Super 1600" regulations which allows fairly extensive modification. Although the basic configuration of the car is the same (1600cc, Front Wheel Drive), the engine and gearbox are highly modified. In addition, the brakes and suspension use specialised competition components. Although the basic body shell is standard, the rules allow the track (distance between the front wheels) to be increased, and so additional bodywork is added to the front and rear wings. Most of the interior trim is removed and the seats replaced with competition seats.
Q: How much power does the 206 have?
A: Just over 210 BHP (from a 1600cc engine!)
